For Lovers 1
In the winter of 1901, Gustav Mahler met Alma Schindler, the daughter of a famous painter. The beginning of their relationship, one of the most intriguing in the history of art, was the happiest period in the composer’s life. In addition to being personally fulfilled, Mahler also prospered in the professional sphere: he was appointed Director of the Wiener Staatsoper and the permanent conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He wove those feelings of bliss into his Symphony No. 5, whose most famous movement Adagietto is, actually, a musical love letter written to Alma. The conductor’s podium in front of the Belgrade Philharmonic will be taken by Yoel Gamzou, one of the best interpreters of Mahler’s works among European conductors of the youngest generation.
